the app says my email is invaid
the app for this router is stating my email address is not valid. what is up with that

A little bit thin on information. Is this app for this router the Nighthawk App or the Netgear Genie App probably?
To work with the updated Nighthawk App, we have to authenticate using email and password as used with my.Netgear.com (as for product registrations, support, and also the community [but here we have an alias]). Similar for the remote access in the Genie App.
In either case, for the remote access, the router must be linked with the Netgear cloud (Advanced -> ReadyShare -> ReadyCloud).
