Thanks for those that replied.
I have two wired pc's attached to the router, a wired smart TV connected and many wireless connections (phones, IPads etc.) Neither of the two PC's wired can connect via a browser. I am more perplexed on this condition than I ought to be! A router needs configuration. How can something so basic not work? I see many people have expereinced this condition. Also, the concept of software to help configure the router (genie) sounds like a good thing, but why would it not be full featured? No port forwarding section?
I have not uninstalled genie nore rebooted anything yet. When I started, I did not have genie installed, but since I could not connect to the router, thought installing it would help. No such luck. The 2nd PC that is connected to the router does not have genie installed. It cannot connect either.
Does that answer the question of what is on the network?
Thanks
Larry

Are you sure your router's IP address is 192.168.1.1? This article explains one method for finding out. Netgear routers will automatically change their IP address if they detect that the LAN and WAN are using the same subnet.

ipconfig reports the default gateway as 192.168.1.1.
I' m not sure I understand the Lan Wan statement. I assume LAN= the 192.168 IP's, and WAN=internet ISP assigned IP?

If your modem is, instead, a modem/router, then the IP address assigned to your R7000's Internet port could be a 192.168.x.x address. Moreover, if the assigned address happened to be in the same subnet as your LAN (e.g. the modem/router assigned 192.168.1.2 to your R7000), then this would conflict with the R7000's LAN subnet. The R7000 has logic to detect this and change its LAN subnet. Typically, it will switch to 10.0.0.0/255.0.0.0.
