Menus keep popping up

We often find that our Meural Canvas is displaying menu information even though we haven't gestured or used the app to see it. Not only is it annoying to have to take deliberate steps to make the menus go away, but our Canvas does not seem to react easily to gestures so it often takes multiple attempts.

it'd be great to know what's causing this - maybe subtle changes in lighting in the room, mistaken for gestures? Adjusting the light sensitivity has made no difference, unfortunately. I understand that it's not possible to completely turn off the light or gesture sensor. Is there something else we can try that we're not thinking of?
