Meural cloud and onboard storage is a confusing mess
If anybody from Netgear is listening.... the taxonomy for cloud and onboard storage is an abysmal and confusing mess.
Why can't this be simplified? I have 20 GB cloud storage plan and the frame has 4 GB onboard (both of which are pathetically under provisioned in 2023. For crying out loud, storage is cheap, why does Netgear have to be so incredibly stingy for such an expensive product???).
Anyways, after doing a bunch of digging through forums I have come to understand that photos I upload to playlists go against my cloud storage, and photos I send directly to the canvas go against the onboard storage.
What is less clear, is when I assign a playlist to my canvas, do all the photos on that playlist then transfer to the onboard storage? If so, this seems to mean that no playlist can be over 4 GB? Ridiculous.
Next, how do you actually, EASILY see what is on the onboard storage of the Canvas, so if it is getting full pictures can be removed, and HOW ON EARTH do you actually remove them? I have gone to the canvas settings > Manage art > and unlinked all playlists, and then clicked the WORKS tab and deleted all pictures so there are literally ZERO pictures showing on the frame, yet the onboard storage still shows only 1.7 GB free. Even further, I actually FACTORY RESET the Meural, and right out of the gate it showed that there was only 1.5GB free onboard, even though I had only loaded A SINGLE PHOTO (I immediately unlinked the Meural sampler that automatically downloads after setup. How on earth can I only have 1.5 GB free when there is A SINGLE PHOTO on there right after initial setup? And I should mention that this is not an issue with this specific canvas. I have two canvases, and both of them exhibit this same behavior.
Why does this product have to be so freaking CONVOLUTED??? It's so simple, give a decent amount of onboard storage, make a place in the app where we can view all photos and easily identify which ones are in the cloud and which ones are onboard, so they can be easily removed, if necessary, and let us use a SD card to expand the storage if we want.
The way SD cards are implemented on this device is another absolute joke. Great, we can make folders on SD card (meural1, meural2....etc.) and dump a bunch of photos on them, but from there we can't see or browse the photos on the SD card from the app or anywhere else. That means if I have a SD card with a few hundred pictures on it and I want to show a specific one I have to SWIPE MY HAND IN FRONT OF THE CANVAS FOR HOURS LOOKING FOR IT. Absolutely absurd. It makes this "Storage expansion via SD card" basically useless.
Please help me understand how I can get this stupid thing working correctly. Also, fix your website. I reported back in August 2023 that there is no way to update payment method OR manage my subscription on the website. When I go to click on the links to do manage account > update payment method, a spinning graphic loads and just sits there forever. I have tried this on 3 different computers with multiple browsers, on my phone web browser, via my home wifi, at work, tethered to my cell phone.... it never works.
Please provide an answer to my questions about how to free up my local storage. Something is not right.

Sadly the company doesn't seem to be active at all, not only regarding customer support. Updates to the iOS app are far apart and provide little to no new features. Soon after I purchased it I gave the Canvas a 5 star rating with a very detailed review on Amazon. Now I regret doing that and encouraging other people to fork out that much money. The hardware itself is definitely not worth the price tag, unless supported by active development of the software side. I actually wonder whether there are ANY developers devoted full time to this product line.
