This is a familiar conundrum for consumers: whether to spend the money up front to purchase extended warranties for every purchase or to save that money and "eat the cost" when something breaks after the warranty period expires. There appear to be a variety of similar products on the market. Many of them appear to have the same one year warranty.

Extended warranties should not required when a reputable company produces and sells digital display platforms for over $600. There is a reasonable expectation that they will not die in just over a year. Especially when all it has done in that year is hang on a wall and display pictures. Even worse, this is a known issue with the manufacturer. NetGear should stand behind their faulty product and replace or repair those that were manufactured with this defect.
