My meural has only the SD Card slot on the bottom side - it makes no sense for there to one on the back. I did experience a problem with old SD cards & reformatting so I bought a new one which worked fine. The Meural only recognises SD cards and card updates if the unit is completely powered down and switched off at the mains supply.
