Why does the Meural software need access to all of my photos? Where's the privacy policy?

I received a meural as a gift. I installed it and starting setting up the software, and when it got to adding photos, I was given the standard iOS permission dialog, and I chose to select individual images instead of the entire library. I then got an error trying to add an image to the meural from my iOS photo library. The software redirected me to the iOS system settings where it required access to ALL images!

Well, having worked in this field before, I know what companies do with those photos. They process them with algorithms that identify all of the products and people and things in the images and use that for profiling people. Yeah, I don't want to do that.

I checked the Net Gear privacy policy, and it seemed pretty weak.
