Can't connect to Smart-things hub, HUE hub, etc.

Do external hubs such as Smart-Things, HUE etc.. need to be plugged into new mesh router or sattelites to work??  I still have them connected tyo my original router and they will not connect.  Not enough plugs to plug into new mesh system.
