Connecting Nighthawk c7000 & Orbi mesh
My husband and I both work from home. We want to put my husband’s office down in the basement and my office upstairs. His system requires he be hard wires to a router. What is the best way to connect ...

it is compatible but uses the slower 866mbps backhaul versus the 50 series has a 1733mbps backhaul. Makes a little difference for peak wired speeds or if there's multiple wireless devices simultaneously using it. I've used both and never had an issue with the RBS40V in comparisons to my 50 series devices. You can always swap the rbs40v for the rbs50 satellite if the office is needing the faster backhaul.

Which orbi did you buy? (model)
What is your home made of and how big is it? certain materials block wifi so its tough to say "yes, it'll work" based off your info.
You have several options when it comes to setup. If you want to retain the C7000 then to prevent a double nat, you'd want to put the orbi in access point mode. This prevents running 2 routers in router mode on 1 network.

- FfeblesDec 12, 2020TutorI bought the RBK50. The house is wood frame and the flooring above the basement appears to be mainly wood. The upstairs is roughly 1700 square ft and the basement about 800.
If I put the Orbi in access point mode and the c7000 does the routing am I going to lose some of the speed the Orbi provided? We have 1G FO to the house.

In ap mode, the orbi shouldn't loose any speed. It just relies on the C7000 to act as the router. So anything that was working before, should work. Same with vpn. If you're using a vpn on your c7000, it'll still work with the orbi in AP mode.
- FfeblesDec 12, 2020TutorWe are moving into the house on the 22nd, so I am assuming that my c7000 will work with the Fiber, which is new to the house. My C7000 is currently working with xfinity cable and handles both of our VPN’s.
- FfeblesDec 12, 2020TutorI was just reading one of the links, difference between access point & router mode and it said that routers allow VPN. If I set up the Orbi in AP mode and I connect to it via WiFi will my VPN not work or will it just route the BPN connection through the Im router? I have to use VPN for work.
