EX7700 as an access point

Good Day,

I just purchased a Nighthawk EX7700 Mesh extender. My goal is to extend my ATT DSL to the finished basement. I followed the instructions for set up and got it working.

My wife is a teacher and uses a HP Envy X360 with Windows 10. As you all know, school is out here in Michigan and maybe for the rest of the school year(find out tomorrow).

Here is the issue. With the extender setup and on in the basement, her laptop(while she is upstairs) keeps disconnecting from the wifi. Once I turned off the extender, her issue went away. I checked all I could on her laptop regarding connectivity settings and all seem correct(coming from a Mac guy)!

I now want to set it up as an access point. Looking in the user manual, it states "Do not connect your extender directly to your DSL or cable modem. The extender does not function as a router. If your network includes a DHCP server, you can connect the extender to a switch or hub that is connected to the DHCP server."

Does this mean that I can't use the EX7700 as an access point with my ATT DSL router?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

No, It just means that you need a router in the circuit. That'd be the ATT dsl router.  we've had people try to go modem-----ap. And that doesn't work. But you have a modem/router combo device. So it does.

When you setup the EX7700, what firmware was on it? And were you running with mesh setup (single ssid)?

Running it in ap mode is probably the way to get the best performance.
