I have the MR90
Years later after this original post, and it helped me! Thank you! I have the MR90 and could not for the life of me get my Echo Dot set up. I noticed that the router MESH was assigning the 5g to the device and not the 2g. Creating the separate 2g network did the trick! Thank you!

The Echo Dot supports both 2.4G and 5G WiFi. My Dot connected to WiFi immediately at 5G and has been working perfectly for YEARS.
Since 2.4G has lower bandwidth and typically more interference than 5G, I am happy to have the Dot connected at 5G.
