Darn I suspected I'd be asked techy things that I can't answer ..
Firmware, how do I find the version? It's never been updated, at least not by me. How do I update this?

Log into the MRs web page with a web browser at 192.168.1.1 to see version #
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Let us know FW version first before updating it.
Do you have any MS satellites deployed as well?

OK, I went to that address 192.168.1.1 but there's nothing there. Sorry what does 'MRs web page' mean?
modem is DOCSIS 3.1 Dual Band Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) Panoramic Wifi Gateway from Cox
yeah there are two satellites.

Do you not see the MRs log in window pop up at that address?
What IP address does your PC get from the MR when it's connected to the MR?

If your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the NG router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the NG router gets from the modem. https://kb.netgear.com/25891/DMZ-on-NETGEAR-routers

3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the NG router to the modem, LAN to LAN configure AP mode on the NG router.

It isn't really a "web page" so much as the graphical user interface (GUI) for your router.
It doesn't go out and look for a place on "the web". It gets you into the local controls for a router and./or the MS satellites.
How do I log in to my NETGEAR wireless router? | Answer | NETGEAR Support
It is a standard move that you will see described in the manual. Sadly, it is all too easy for "experts" to forget that this stuff was new to them once upon a time.
modem is DOCSIS 3.1 Dual Band Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) Panoramic Wifi Gateway from CoxThat could be where your problems start.
Two routers on your network can cause headaches. For example, you can end up with local problems with address on your network. Among other things, the other router can misdirect traffic to addresses that the Netgear router usually handles, such as routerlogin.net or the usual default IP address for a router, 192.168.1.1.
This explains some of the other drawbacks.
What is Double NAT? | Answer | NETGEAR Support
Unless you have specific reasons for using two routers – to create two separate networks for example – it is often easier to use just one router and then to set up the second router as a wifi access point (AP) with a wired connection to the main router. Netgear advises this, as does just about every site you will visit.Again, it is all too easy to baffle people by throwing jargon at them. Take things step at a time and you can quickly learn enough to avoid the hassle, and cost, of getting a tech person to come in. They will just do things to get you up and running, leaving you none the wiser for the next time something happens.

OK my tech guy came by, he spent quite a bit of time on it but got the blue light back!
but then this morning the red light was back .. I had to unplug it, and reboot the router.
why did that happen like that? Is there a fix for this issue??
