Why my internal network devices disconnect when the Internet goes down.

You are right. It doesn't make sense. So more information might help.
Among other things, what happens when "the Internet goes down"? That could describe various symptoms.
Yes, I have the latest firmware installed on all units. Yes, all my NAS drives have the latest firmware as well.
Only you know if your firmware is up to date. Here, we need to know the actual number. That's because there are various ways of getting a "Your firmware is up to date" response when in reality it is no such thing.
Not sure what your NAS firmware has to do with this. Yet again, it might help to have more details of what is happening at your end.
I suggest someone review this and resolve.
Before that can happen, it is important to confirm that this is a universal issue. If you are a one off, then there is a chance that it is down to something at your end. If every user of the MR80 saw the same thing, then Netgear needs to know about it.
