Access control XR500 Duma OS
Ok..I can't find the Access control in my new XR500. I use Access control extensebly in my old netgear to keep everyone out from my wireless network to only that equipment I give permission. I need ...
- Dec 03, 2021As above it is not currently available. There is a sort of workaround that you could try, not sure if it will fit your needs or not but you can make a Traffic Controller rule to apply to ALL devices, then block at all times. You can then make individual rules for devices that you want to have internet access, as long as those individual rules are above the block rule they will supersede it and any new devices trying to connect that you haven't made an individual rule for will be blocked.

Something that's currently not supported on Gaming routers.

The XR series is NOT half baked. Access controls were not a feature that was added by NG intended design. One reason is that the XR gaming routers are designed and focued with the gaming user in mind mostly. Gamers tend to want a good gaming routers with focus on gaming performances and gaming needs. Access Controls is more of a general router and paratal controls focus. This is seen on R and RAX and Orbi routers systems. If your not a gamer and want the access control features, then any gaming router would not be suitable for your needs. Try a R, RAX or Orbi system that supports access controls.

After my trusty NETGEAR Nighthawk X4S (R7800) - AC2600 ethernet ports started dying out I looked for another solution. It worked for 5 years. I guess I found the wrong solution. Something that will not do in my environment. I prefer to have the second layer of safety or security.
I was wondering if anyone knows if DD-wrt or Open wrt works with this particular model? I dislike returning anything to amazon cause 90 percent of the times it will end up in the soil. Who knows maybe I keep it and use it as an access point. The salvation army comes to mind. lSorry didn't mean to insult your preference in router. I'm not a big gamer so security is very important to me, especially when it comes to my network. I will do a better research for the next one. If I can't find another solution for this particular router is back to the drawing board.
Thanks for the adivice I will stick to the R or Rax if I choose netgear again.
