buy the xr500 instead of xr700
When is the xr 700 getting the ping assist. should I have saved a couple hundred dollars and bought the 500 instead?

The only reason to buy these routers and pay the extra money is for gaming. What makes these routers diffrent , its the software. when the xr is over $200 cheeper with better software theres no reason to buy the xr700. I found out the hard way. hope this helps someone.
Software feature should be similar even XR700 does not have ping assist but will be supported snoon as same DumaOS.
the big difference between XR500 and XR700 is hardware. if you require strong wifi connection and range (active antenna design), you may choose XR700; otherwise, as you said, XR500 is cheaper and fully meet your requirement, just buy XR500.
