Internet cable could be anything. It could be fibre to the home, cable internet, dsl, etc. 

What actual modem/gateway is the router connected to?

      Not much info on the freebox (thats in english) but it looks like its own modem/router combo device? 

      do you have the XR500's IP address entered into the freebox's DMZ? Or the freebox in passthrough mode?
