Game lag xr700
Hi, I have a nighthawk xr700 which is configured with QoS and game traffic prioritization (by port). when i am playing warzone on my ps5 and the apple tv is playing at the same time, the game bec...

I doubt if that is what Netduma-Fraser wants. That is the router's network map.
It does not tell us anything about the "Modem" at the front end. What is it? Make and model number?
Then there are other bits in there that say not much. Look at the "unnamed dev". What are they?

I have a Huawei EchoLife HG8240T5 GPON as a modem
the unnamed devices are just mobile devices connected to the wifi. Living room is a nest thermostat. I also have a printer connected.
Please let me know if more information is required.

The apple TV is connected to the TP link router via Ethernet.
- Netduma-FraserMay 14, 2022NetDuma PartnerThank you for the information, re-enable Share Excess for Bandwidth Allocation, there is no need to give the console that much speed as games use barely more than 1Mbps at most so you can Reset Bandwidth Allocation as well.
Do you have any other devices connected to the TP-Link? Are you using PPPoE, VLAN, IPv6 or DHCP identifiers for your internet connection? - FadiiMay 14, 2022Guide
ISP is providing me with a fixed IP address using PPPoE.
The TP link router is connected to another Wifi router to provide coverage across the house. This a linksys router that provides only wifi to mobile devices.
- Netduma-FraserMay 14, 2022NetDuma PartnerOkay that is probably it, can you reconfigure your setup to do modem > TP link (handling PPPoE, no devices connected if possible) > XR > Other router and then see if it works better

So, if I get this right, you have THREE routers on your network.
TP-Link, Netgear and Linksys.
This is what is technically known as a "rat's nest".
Better still, it looks like the Huawei EchoLife HG8240T5 is also a router.
I don't know how Duma handles all of those things, but the usual advice is to limit a network to just one router. Otherwise you can have three, maybe four, devices trying to manage the traffic on the network.
Here's what Netgear says about cascading routers:
What is Double NAT? | Answer | NETGEAR Support
First look at this bit:
This a linksys router that provides only wifi to mobile devices. You say "provides only wifi". Does that mean it is set up to do that, or that you are just using it for wifi? Unless it is configured as an access point, or as a repeater, it is still a router.
Likewise the TP-Link. What mode is that in?
A logical layout for a network would be modem (in modem only/bridge mode) followed by the Netgear router and then the TP-Link (in access point mode), and finally the Linksys (again not in router mode).
A better arrangement might be to find a way to get ride of those other routers in favour of a Mesh system that works with the XR700.
As I say, I am not familiar with how the XR700 would handle multiple routers like that. (My experience was back in the beta test days.) But as described your layout is asking for trouble.
The minimum I would do would be to follow the advice from Netduma-Fraser and see if that works better.

Hi
I am getting a public IP address to my netgear xr700.
Modem <-----> Netgear router xr700 <-------> TP Link router <------> Linksys router.
The xr700 gets a static public IP address to improve gaming experience.
The PS5 is connected directly to xr700 via ethernet.
the pain is only in the ps5 which is one hop away from the modem. are you suggesting i create additional hop between modem and xr700 to fix the issue?
it doesnt make sense though unless you tell me xr700 cannot handle pppoe and traffic prioritization at the same time.
devices which connect to 2nd hop and 3rd hop are fine.
The reason for this connectivity is to provide wifi coverage in all areas of the house where the xr700 signal is weak.

At last, a layout description that makes sense.
If those are wired links, then AP mode on those routers could eliminate any conflicts. Maybe they are already set up that way. You don't say.

Of course, it also makes sense to investigate the configuration of the ps5. It is easy to blame the router for all network issues. But the rest of the network has to play ball.
I'm sure that the DumaOS folks can offer better advice on that front. I was just trying to get my head around your network spaghetti.
The reason for this connectivity is to provide wifi coverage in all areas of the house where the xr700 signal is weak. There may be better ways of filling those holes. I use an Orbi Mesh system (in AP) and a few satellites to provide seamless wifi coverage.
- Netduma-FraserMay 15, 2022NetDuma PartnerActually it does look like the Echo can handle PPPoE on its own, so if you could make it do that and switch the XR back to DHCP, then put the XR in its DMZ I think that would resolve the issue you're having.
- FadiiMay 15, 2022Guide
Could you please confirm you need me to add a hop to do the PPPoE on behalf of the xr700 which is already getting a static public IP address from ISP?
current setup:
Huawei Modem <-----> Netgear router xr700 <-------> TP Link router <------> Linksys router.
- FadiiMay 15, 2022Guide
The Huawei Echo is an ISP managed device (GPON) which i dont have control or access to. if you are suspecting that PPPoE is the issue. then my topology will have to change into:
Echo <---> Linksys ---- XR700 ---- TP link which doesnt make sense
- Netduma-FraserMay 15, 2022NetDuma PartnerThat was what I was saying yes but now I don't think that is needed as the Huawei should be able to handle PPPoE on its own
- FadiiMay 15, 2022Guide
please forget about the hauwei device as i cannot manage it.
I manage the devices beyond it. so the first one is the xr700. which will have to get the static IP via pppoe. let me know what you suggest.
- Netduma-FraserMay 15, 2022NetDuma PartnerHave the ISP locked it down? Did they put it in a bridge mode?
If that is the case then do modem > TP link (handling PPPoE, no devices connected if possible) > XR (DHCP)> Other router (AP mode) and then see if it works better - FadiiMay 18, 2022Guide
Ok i did a couple changes for testing:
- XR700 is getting Dynamic IP address (private not public) and is no longer configured with PPPoE & static IP address
- XR700 is connected to Echo via a DMZ link ( no multiple hops in between)
I have tested this for a couple of days and i am not experiencing lag issues when apple TV is on.
I will continue testing; however, it seems the issue is resolved.
Thank you for your support.
