    The XR500 can stop local devices from using a lot of bandwidth but the main limit on bandwidth is always going to be over WAN. Compared to that, your LAN speeds are practically unlimited. So I would say the XR500 is unlikely to make much difference to speeds over LAN.

      It isn't required for internet but it would greatly improve the quality and prevent you from lagging when you're playing online!
