I flashed it's out-of-support firmware with the latest OpenWRT
Sorry I'm late to the party...
After my Netgear XR500 became EOS'd, I flashed it's out-of-support firmware with the latest OpenWRT which includes the"Netfilter" firewall code.
It runs very reliably as my main router(with wifi off). I have both a RS600 and a RAXE500, both configured as access points in distributed parts of my residence.
XR500 can be bought for very few dollars and OpenWRT is free.

I like when there's an option for 3rd party firmware when devices become EOL. Gives most users an avenue for updates/performance increases.
