Nighthawk R8000 will not connect to the internet as a router but will as an AP

I purchased the R8000 and the X6 tri-band Extender In a package deal to upgrade my system. I have the R7850 already and wanted to use it as a wireless AP or AP for my son’s gaming room. I tried 4 times to reboot and reset to default on the router and reboot the modem but I cannot get the R8000 to connect to the internet as the main router. When it is hooked up all lights are white and the internet remains ORANGE. It will work as an AP to my R7850 but only wired. Can someone give me some info on what to do, I spent 3 hours on with Netgear tech support and they couldn’t help. I spoke to 3 people there and still I only have my original 7850 hooked up and my R8000 in the box.

What modem are you connecting to?

What firmware is on the R8000?

When the internet is amber, its recognizing the connection but not getting setup all the way. Did you set it up in the proper order?

Try resetting the router and the modem back to stock. Disconnect all devices from both. Then setup in this order.

    1. connect coax to modem

    2. power on the modem. Give it several minutes to fully boot

    3. Connect lan cable from modem to WAN port on router

    4. power up router. give it several minutes.

    5. Then connect a laptop/pc to the router and attempt setup.
