Nighthawk x500

Hi thanks for your replies. I’ve realised it was a typo. It died. I rebooted it using the interface but it froze and the interface screen went blank white. I’ve tried plugging it in directly with Ethernet to my laptop and trying both router login.net and 192.168.1.1. But I’ve not been able to get it to the interface screen since. I might be doing something wrong in the way I’m connecting it. When it switches on one red light comes on but that’s possibly because it’s not connected to the modem. I use my virgin media router as a modem and the x500 as a router. Haven’t had a single problem with it before, signal is really strong. I’m not a gamer but my son is and he says it’s never dropped out and he’s on the second floor of the house. Warranty has expired but I don’t want to give up on it especially as it was £250 and worth every penny until this happened. I It’s disconnected and I’ve switched my virgin router to router mode for now. I’m just at a loss what to do. I tried a factory reset but no joy. There’s probably something I’m doing in the sequence of trying to get it going and my son now lives 300 miles away ( ironically as IT support) and he’s not back till august. Any suggestions welcome
Hold the reset button for 30 seconds, release, wait 2 minutes then try to connect to the interface using 192.168.1.1 and see whether that gives you access
- Thanks I am going to try again from scratch. My original setup was the virgin hub as a modem then the x500 went into reboot and then just stopped working. I’ve reset it but because I work from home, I need to do it at the weekend. Just to make sure I’m getting it right. I switch the hub into modem mode the from port one into the yellow port on the nighthawk and then plug an Ethernet from my MacBook Pro to the nighthawk ? My son set it up originally and he has moved away. After I did the factory reset all lights are white so I want to get it up and running again. Had it over two years without a problem. Immense signal. I also want to update the firmware for my access point but that’s another topic. Thanks for the advice
- I have Virgin as well and would actually recommend you keep it in router mode instead of modem mode - I find it to be more stable. Yes you've got it, then access the interface and go through the setup wizard and you should get internet.
- Hi thanks for your reply. I have to say it’s improved a lot since I had it changed over. The problems with the WiFi caused me to buy the nighthawk and the signal has really improved since. The dilemma is I want to go back to the nighthawk because the signal is the best I’ve ever had. Because I work from home I can’t take the chance of having signal problems in the week so I’m trying to have a go at the weekend but I’m really busy every weekend. If I’ve been slow to answer people’s tips it isn’t on purpose and I really appreciate everyone’s comments. I’ve also got a Netgear AP that I want to update the firmware but I’m wary of cocking that up. I’ve got a step by step guide to getting the x500 going again. I hate giving up on things, especially one that cost £250. Originally my son set it up because he’s a gamer and was in our converted attic but he’s working away now. Thanks Everyone
