nighthawk xr500 ap mode mesh wifi
Hi there, I have a nighthawk xr500. It is currently running on AP mode, as my isp needs us to use their modem/router. I want to ask if it possible to use ex8000 on the xr500 to access mesh wifi?...

What do you mean your ISP needs you to use their modem/router? You've already connected the router to it so you can just put it in router mode and enable modem or bridge mode on the ISP router or put the XR500 in its' DMZ. I don't see why it wouldn't work, should be absolutely fine to do that if needed!

Hey Fraser,
thanks for your reply. Let me rephrase it a little.
my ISP provides a modem/router combo that is set up to provide internet. I will need to use the modem/router combo in the first in the line.
my ISP also provides a xr500 for me to use but it will only work in AP mode, second in the line.
So my question is, if i use xr500 in AP mode, can i add ex8000 via eternet to for the wifi mesh?

Yes that should be absolutely fine and work as expected.- happimanNov 17, 2019Tutor
I guess it wouldn't work in router mode cos it's the second router in the line.
ISP's Modem/Router Combo > XR500 > EX8000.
I've yet to purchase the ex8000, cos i need to make sure that it will work first.
Anyway, if it works, how many ex8000 can i connect to the xr500? is there a limiit? Cos some mesh network only supports 1 or 2 nodes.
- Netduma-FraserNov 17, 2019NetDuma PartnerIt would work that way, you have to have it connected to a modem/router in order to gain a connection. All you'd need to do is put the ISP router in modem mode or bridge mode. If it doesn't have those options then use the DMZ. You'll be able to achieve a open NAT this way. I'm not sure on a limit personally as I've only used one. Christian_R could you help answer this question?4
