Question about the NETGEAR Nighthawk Pro Gaming XR500 WiFi Router
Will it lower my ping on fortnight NA East servers connected by an ethernet cable? I use a 7 year old basic modem and router. My friend from 2 miles away gets 15ms less ping that me even though i have a better pc and faster internet, he has a better modem and router than me.
Is it a modem and router combo?
3. Is the ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AC5300 better?

1. This really depends on what your ping is now and what is contributing to it. If your ISP is poor/has poor routing then no, you need to contact the ISP about that. If it is due to local congestion caused by lots of devices in your home then yes. Faster internet also doesn't mean better ping.
2. No it is a router so you would need to connect it to your existing modem/router.
3. Not in my opinion but then again there is some bias there. Our next update that is going through beta on the XR500 has lots of new features in addition to the existing features that take the router to the next level and give you serious power over your network and your gaming.
