Multiple games matchmaking "messes up"?
I have noticed this issue in two separate games that I've played and while it could be just the games themselves the fact that both games have effectively the same problem happens makes me question i...

I do not currently have the Geo-Filter enabled but from previous usage attempts I had it set to 1110 miles/1786km.
Because these games are P2P the geo filter is basically non-functional from a practical standpoint because the games themselves would not be able to recognize that the connections "aren't allowed" because of the geo filter in my experience. What typically happens when it is setup is that the game would try to match with someone outside the filter -> the filter functions correctly and disallows it -> the game does a matchmaking connection error since it couldn't connect to that person. So the matchmaking itself becomes inherently worse since it thinks it is erroring out whenever it runs into these types of connections.
This is why I haven't been using the geo filter anymore anyway.

I get you, the way the matchmaking works makes Geo-Filtering more of a slog. If you don't have the Geo-Filter enabled then there isn't really anything blocking you from making further connections, do you get the same issue if you connect your PS5 directly to the modem?

I'd have to find a time where I can separately test that since other people need to use the internet throughout the day for stuff more important than me playing a game so that I would have to look into at a different time.
But I can share the actual examples of the problem happening so you can at least see what is going on.
EXAMPLE 1: This was 2 years ago, I was having other problems which could have lead to this but the fact that the same situation still happens means whatever was fixed previously wasn't a solution for this specific problem either.

EXAMPLE 2: This was 7 months ago, in this example you can see that I DON'T have the connection filters set to a higher standard, meaning it should try to match me with ANYONE and yet it was messing up anyway.

EXAMPLE 3: This was less than a month ago, in this example you can see the connecting looping on the left side of the screen, previously I had played different people for over 1 hour and then it starts acting like this. And this happens "regularly" each time I play this game, it is like it just stops working for no reason and feels similar to the above examples in an entirely different game.

That's understandable, I think it's an important step to determine if it could be a router issue or an ISP/game issue

Can I get an official explanation for why the Geo-Filter is showing "peers" in random places like outside of Africa, one in Europe, and sometimes in South America?
That doesn't really make any sense and if it is just a random quirk in the router why hasn't it been fixed after all this time through an update?- Netduma-FraserNov 04, 2025NetDuma Partner
IPs are bought and sold, one month it might belong to someone in Australia, the next month it could be in the US. IP databases will by the very nature not be 100% accurate. We have an IP database and just like all others it needs to be updated regularly, that being said, true peer IPs i.e. a person are more likely to be mislocated as we wouldn't necessarily have an accurate location for them. If you provide the IDs of those ones you've mentioned we can have a look at correcting them.

I will have to get the IDs later tonight when I test it again but this has been ongoing for quite a while and not just a month by month basis which makes me think it is a visual bug in the router or some other explanation needed which is why I ask and why I'm curious how it hasn't been "fixed" if it is a known reason.
The one "peer" is literally in the ocean the west of Africa which is NOT plausible for where I am located and what I am expected to be matched with even with the most unreasonable search parameters.
The other thing I notice is that usually one of the IPs are like 192.xxx.etc which makes me think it is a local IP thing and I question why that is even showing up like it does. The other one is like 10.xxx.etc which is a similar local IP but literally being picked up in Europe or whatever which I know isn't the real location. For example when I ping Google DNS 8.8.8.8 with PingPlotter I can see there are a few 10.xxx.etc IPs inbetween my ISPs IPs that I know are "private IPs" for whatever reason, and while I don't understand the purpose or what my ISP is doing with that I see a similar "peer" show up like that on the map in the random location with a similar IP.
So that's why I'm asking "why" the router is visually showing these things in the Geo-Filter the way they are shown and if they aren't accurate how come it isn't something fixed after such a long time.
