XR 300 Stuck on Checking For Updates Loop

My router was working decently well but my connection kept dropping for some devices but not others. So I did a hard reset and it sent me back to the set up page which I expected but now after completing it, it decides it wants to get stuck in this loop. I’ve reset it again and again to no avail. I am so sick of this dog router. Please help.

A couple of points, did you save a copy of your settings before the reset?

Secondly, the auto-update process has always been flaky. It can miss updates.

You should be able to go into the browser graphical user interface (GUI) and disable it.

Experienced users prefer to control updates and apply them manually.

Finally, this isn't best place to get help with the XR300.

While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

Nighthawk Pro Gaming Routers - NETGEAR Communities

Gaming routers have their own DumaOS operating system that is nothing like the one on Netgear's standard routers.

You might like to search there for messages related to your problem. There is also a dedicated and capable support team.

I will ask the Netgear moderator to move your message.

In the meantime you could visit the support pages:

    Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.

    Check for various troubleshooting tips.

You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.

I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.

  • Access 192.168.1.1/adv_index.htm and re-upgrade to the latest firmware there, see if that breaks the loop
