Do that lag spikes occur accross your connection or only in this one game?
Have you tried (in order to eliminate possibilities) going to the QoS menu, opening the Anti-Bufferbloat side menu and ticking Disable QoS?
Could you install PingPlotter and run some tests with and without the XR500? Also with and without QoS Disabled?
