XR1000 and Xbox Series X

I have the Xbox Series X with Spectrum internet package of 400mbps. I am always connected via ethernet. With the equipment given to me by Spectrum, I run network and speed test on my Xbox and I get over 400mbps download and about 10mbps upload with 32ms Latency.

Yesterday I bought the Nighthawk XR1000 and I run speed test in DumaOS and I get over 400mbps down, 10mbps up, and 14 ms ping. I go into QoS and allocate my bandwidth to "Gaming" at 70%. I port forwarded all the ports Xbox says to have open on your router. I run network and speed test on my Xbox and I get just over 290mbps down, about 7mbps up, and a range from 32-60 ms latency.

Any suggestions on what to do? Why the hell do I have a gaming router where my connection is worse? Am I missing something or not understanding?

so I'm confused. YOU set it at 70% priority. And its speeds when from 400mbps to 290mbps/ 10mbps to 7bps. 70% of 400 is 280mbps. same with 10mbps to 7mbps.

And you'd expect the ping to increase because now its doing traffic management so the data has to be inspected. Anything that inspects traffic is going to increase ping times.

  • You don't need to give gaming 70%, gaming uses barely more than 1Mbps maximum so it's unnecessary to try and give it that much speed. If you're using Congestion Control as well the speeds will go down so the above does make sense. The latency shown there is also to the authetication server for the online service and will not impact your connection to a game.
