You have the arris tm1602?
what speeds do you pay for?
do all devices drop the connection or just wireless?
When it drops, what does it actually say? do devices say "connected, no internet", do they loose the wifi connection? Does the wifi stop broadcasting? What actually happens?

What CAT# lan cable do you have between the modem and router? CAT6 is recommended.
Be sure your ISP services up to the modem is good.

I have a newer cat8 cable connected, although the unit itself comes with a cat5e cable. Services up to the modem are good, i just replaced the modem the same day and direct connected an xbox to it for 3hours of play without interruption.

Does the LEDs on the router turn AMBER when this happens?
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?
Try using the LAN cable that came with the router between the modem and router to test.
Try this, factory reset the router and setup from scratch. I would power OFF the ISP modem and router for 1 minute after you reset the router and before you walk thru the setup wizard.
Power ON the modem then the router and walk thru the setup wizard with a wired PC and web browser.
You should be able to input your ISP speeds seen during the walk thru.
After you set up the router and get to the home screen, change the default IP address pool range to 192.168.1.100 to .200.
Manually set WiFi channels to 1 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 or 149 on 5Ghz.
I would leave all gaming features disabled for now. QoS should be enabled or you can try it disabled as well.

Just never been impressed with that arris modem.
Not saying its the issue. Just saying I've seen a lot of posts with that specific model.
Its a pretty base model modem

Same thought. Not there best and wasn't the greatest to begin with.
You might consider upgrading to something different. Check with the ISP to see what they support.

Yes agree. When i spoke to the netgear tech he said very specially the modem is fine (which i was surprised by). I tried to buy one in the past and got the wrong one somehow. Support wasn’t very helpful in getting me to the supported types.
so far we made those two changes and haven't had a drop for a few hoursmtu from 1500 to 1496
use pc mac addres (wlan setup)
I am now going to backup settings
upgrade firmware
factory reset
reload backup
reboot modem
