tftp can take a few attempts as its sensitive to timings. Nmrpflash is a little less sensitive.
So I'd try again. And try a few times
are you on windows? if so, follow this guide
https://kb.netgear.com/000059634/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-Windows-TFTP
just make sure you enable tftp
https://www.thewindowsclub.com/enable-tftp-windows-10
and here's a video walk through using a tftp client. Use the built in one for windows 10 though. the video is more of an example of how its done.

and if that doesn't work, you can try using nmrpflash

Thanks for the quick reply. I've now tried both tftp and Nmrpflash without success. Tftp is unsuccessful and Nmrp comes up with "Error: Ethernet cable is unplugged". I've tried multiple cords in multiple ports with no success. There doesn't appear to be any activity on the router other than the power light which is just constant white. Hopefully it's still under warranty as I only got it a month ago.

To get a hold of support. Click on "MyNetgear" at the top.
Register an account (or login) and then the device.
From there you can start the support process. Keep in mind that its only free for the first 90 days so if you got it 90 days ago, you should be good.It might be faster to exchange it where you got it depending on their return policy. RMA through netgear I think it costs you to ship it back. Some retailers pay for exchange.
