Have you tried a simple factory reset on the router and reinstall?

with the router connected to the modem, are you able to ping and then log into the modem through the router?
- FreddieSFeb 15, 2025Apprentice
How would i do that? Thanks

with a pc connected to the router, open a command prompts on windows and type ping 192.168.100.1
you can also access it through the browser at that address.
- Netduma-FraserFeb 15, 2025NetDuma PartnerReboot the modem, wait 2 minutes, reboot the XR, wait 4 minutes then check, do you get internet? If not check the System Information page, does it show you have a WAN IP?

This is what i got back.
Pinging 192.168.100.1 with 32 bytes of data
Request timed out.

Request timed out. Also i was unable to access it through the browser. Is that the correct IP address for it? Thanks

When rebooting the Modem. I just unplug it for 2 minutes. Do i plug it back in, then unplug the XR for 4 minutes? Then check the WAN? Thanks.
- Netduma-FraserFeb 15, 2025NetDuma PartnerYes plug it back in, then wait 2 minutes, then you can unplug the XR in the same manner if you wish or use the button that turns it off/on and just do that then wait 4 minutes. Basically the waiting part is after you've turned it back on then check

Ok did it and same results. Internet even seems a bit worse.
- Netduma-FraserFeb 15, 2025NetDuma PartnerHow is it worse exactly if you can't connect to any websites?
- FreddieSFeb 15, 2025Apprentice
it can connect to websites. It can take a long time. And a lot of the time it times out.
- Netduma-FraserFeb 15, 2025NetDuma PartnerIs it this specific PC you're having the issue with or are other devices having the issues as well?
- FreddieSFeb 15, 2025Apprentice
Yes having issue with a Laptop. It is running through wifi, and is running windows 11. My Pc is ethernet cord and is running windows 10.
- Netduma-FraserFeb 16, 2025NetDuma PartnerHave you changed any network settings on the devices themselves or are they using automatic settings?
- FreddieSFeb 16, 2025Apprentice
whatever is default .
- Netduma-FraserFeb 16, 2025NetDuma PartnerCould you disable the Adblocker on the router and see if it works then please?
- FreddieSFeb 16, 2025Apprenticeadblocker is and has been disabled.
- Netduma-FraserFeb 16, 2025NetDuma PartnerI think it may be best to wait for the new modem from your ISP and then test directly to that. I know you don't get the exact same issue on your modem currently but what you are experiencing directly to it isn't normal either so quite possible that modem is faulty. If you don't on the new modem but still do on the XR then it narrows it down a bit.

ok Thanks. should be here in 2 days.

Ok got new Modem today. Still same issue. I ordered a new XR1000 replacement should be here by thursday. If you want to do some testing i am game. i am wondering if its the new firmware update or possible hardware? Thanks.
- FreddieSFeb 19, 2025Apprentice
I intalled the firmware update it keeps asking me to install on the top. So i believe i went backwards in firmware? It seems to be working well now. We will see in a few hours if i have the same issue. Might be the new firmware update. I used 7zip to unzip it.

Ok still having the same issue even going back on firmware. getting new router tomorrow from Amazon.

I'm having the same issue. Internet is "lost" for thirty seconds to a minute. Error messages often reference "DNS". It then comes back. Interestingly during one of these outages, I could access my NASs, but not the modem (on its "management when in modem mode" address, 192.168.100.1)
The Nighthawk has been in use since June 2024, but these failures started about 10-15 days ago.
Modem is a Virginmedia HUB4 in "modem" mode. It's about a week old (coincidence?). VM decided I needed a new modem/hub, but the issues started before it was installed - indeed it was while on the VM site looking for answers, that they offered a new hub.
Nighthawk firmware is XR1000v2-V1.1.0.22_2.1.34.
Started out with settings for "Internet IP Address" & "DNS Address" as "Get Dynamically/Automatically from ISP"
Router MAC Address is "Default"
Adblocker is not enabled.
Currently using Static addresses for DNS Servers, namely 8.8.8.8 (Google) and 194.168.4.100 (VM's "primary DNS server")
- Netduma-FraserFeb 20, 2025NetDuma PartnerPut the VM in router mode and just test with that without the XR1000 involved, if you get the same issue then it's not the XR

)Hi,
yes that was my next idea.
The Nighthawk has one Ethernet connection, which is to a Cisco gigaswitch - all the downstream units hang off the Cisco. So as an experiment I moved the Ethernet cables for the two main PCs from the Cisco straight into the Nighthawk.
No change: conclusion is the problem is upstream of the Cisco. Strike one, LOL.so then I work upwards, and the choice is either (a) factory reset of the Nighthawk, or (b) take the Nighthawk out of circuit using the VM Hub as router. So discussing this with “the management” - and to be fair, she used to be the IT Director for her organisation - were going for option (b)!
However as she has pointed out “never start an IT project on a Friday afternoon” (and she has had some experience of this……..)
so it will be a couple of days before I get round to it, and TBF, it works most of the time, but with a few glitches that shouldn’t be there.
And I do find it coincidental that these issues arose, and we “suddenly” needed a new modem!
Hey ho!
