XR1000 vs Rax200 for gaming

Hi all,
I'm looking to upgrade my netgear x6 r800 router because #whynot, and I'm tossing up between the XR1000 and Rax200. I have 163m2 (1800 square foot) house, and the primary gaming device is a single hardwired gaming PC.

I suppose my main question is, as I live in New Zealand.. Is Duma OS really going to benefit me much in terms of ping reduction given I'm having to traverse a large distance anyway, so my pings are pretty high by default? I'm never going to really hit lightning pings like people who live close vicinity, and I game with people from south America to Europe to Korea via p2p. I'm hooked on an old game called starcraft

The other benefit I could see of the rax200 is a higher WAN port. We have 2.5 and 4gbit fibre offerings here in NZ, and although while I'm happy with 1gbit at present, it's possible I may upgrade in a year or so.

Appreciate any input from you all, thanks!!

All depends on what you want to do. If your gaming with old Starcraft, and not much gaming on newer multi player online games like CoD, Halo and such, then you may not really need the XR series of routers as they are designed towards newer online multiplayer games.

Thanks for the reply, yeah I rarely play new games to be honest!

Upon further research it seems the multi-gig is only single port, so if I do have 2 or 4gbit fibre coming into the ONT, I'd only be able to get 1gbit to my pc anyway. I may need to consider the Asus rt-ax89x it seems

Obviously I'm going to be biased on this one, but I just thought I'd chip in and mention that the XR1000 will offer a pretty big benefit when you have other devices on the network using bandwidth i.e streaming Netflix, watching YouTube, Downloading things, etc.

When this is happening, Starcraft is going to have to compete with all of this traffic. With DumaOS, you can prioritise the Starcraft traffic to be sent out ahead of anything else on the network, meaning you have a nice stable ping even when there's lots of other things going on in the network. As you say, that ping may be high given your location, but it'll be nice and stable too.
