The XR300 should be connected to the Huawei from its WAN port not LAN port so Huawei LAN > XR300 WAN that should resolve the issues.

I did try that, but even though the Huawai router is connected to the Internet and the DHCP service is working fine and it is configured properly, the internet port light on the XR300 lights up orange when I connect it to the Huawei router and none of the options I have to setup the Internet connection on the XR300 seem to be right (I was looking for LAN or WAN).
Anyway, I decided to take the risk and remove the Huawai router. Glad to say that everything went well and all the network issues I encountered before are a thing of the past.
