XR500 adding an SSD network drive

I bought a ScanDisk 1TB "Extreme Portable SSD" to replace an old and moldy Seagate 500GB drive I'd been using for network storage. No matter what I could not get the router to recognize the drive as a "drive" though it would as a USB device.

After a bit of an Internet search I came across the "exFAT" System File Format. I am pretty familiar with Windows and recall the old "FAT" format and the "NTFS" but never heard of exFAT which is, apparently a system format that both Windows and Mac will read. Turns out my ScanDisk came formatted for exFAT to make it readily compatible with both the Windows 10 and the Mac OSs. Howumsoever, not compatible with the DUMASOS.

So, before you copy over your files to a new ScanDisk, check the file system. It's probably exFAT. Reformat it to "NTFS" (that takes literally seconds) and you're ready to go.
