The firmware has now been publicly released: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-Pro-Gaming-Routers/New-Firmware-for-XR500-2-3-2-32-fixes-disconnection-issue/m-p/1636839#M3864
If you are having a disconnection issue, please upgrade to this firmware (or a later one in the future). Thank you everyone for your patience

Just get a new router is my advice. This thing is a piece of junk. Problem does not go away even after update. Generally Netgear has not changed they are still the bottom of the barrel router.

Ouch! Each to their own, but this is the best rated router on Amazon right now. The XR500 has a lot to offer, and it's going to be supported and upgraded for a long, long time.
Eventually this issue will be ironed out - I'd recommend holding onto it until then. There are plenty of new features on the way :)

Last night my router became unresponsive and my internet connection went down, so I power cycled it, then noticed the 2.3.2.32 firmware was released. I updated the firmware, and my router was fine for 12 hours or so, but just now it did the same exact thing. It became unresponsive, my internet connection went down, and i was not able to login to it via the web UI. One thing that might help diagnose this problem is that my Nighthawk iOS app was actually able to connect to the router during this time, even though the web UI had become unresponsive. I used the Nighthawk iOS app to reboot my router, and now my internet connection is back up again. There is definitely some sort of problem happening though.

I've tried 2.3.2.26 & 2.3.2.32 with factory resets and it still drops about once a day. Hell, I just factory reset again on 2.3.2.32 to be sure and 5 minutes after finishing the setup I lost internet and could not connect to the router without rebooting it. Feels like a lost cause. The only thing we even need to work is QoS and to have this much trouble everyday just isn't worth it anymore. Good luck.

1 year later after the start post and this is still an issue. I RMA'ed the last one i had and 2 days after getting the new one its still the same issue. now currently running FW 2.3.2.56 and still no problem is solved. as stated last year "There are plenty of new features on the way" how are those new features coming? How about fixing old features like XR500 dropping internet for no reason. I find it uterly rediculous i can throw on my 20 year old linksys router and have 0 issues and it isnt even worth $5 today, but a $280 router cannot maintain an internet connection 24/7

What is the Mfr and model# of the ISP modem the NG router is connected too?
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?
If you have gone thru two different routers and problem still exists for you, there maybe an other area in your configuration that could be causing this. Not releated to FW.
Have you downgraded to v32 by chance and done a factory reset and setup from scratch.
Please let us know about your ISP modem configuration...
