xr500 geofilter question

i am running software V2.3.2.32. i woud like to understand how strict mode being unchecked functions. is it still filtering connections? if so by what restrictions? is there a ping filter in place? thanks in advance.

  • Connections in the Geo-Filter are catagosized as either Servers or Peers. Servers represent the servers than run the game, and peers represent other people playing the game.

Strict mode is the default mode of operation, and will block anything outside of your radius. When turned off, servers outside of your radius will still be allowed, meaning that the only thing that gets blocked is peers outside of your radius.

Strict mode was originally introduced so that the Geo-Filter could be compatible with Destiny. The game would quit if it failed to make connections with Destiny servers. However, since a recent update to Destiny 2, it appears that Strict Mode is actually functional now with Destiny, so it might be that the feature is entirely surplus to requirements now.

Ping Assist is a seperate feature, which works with or without Strict Mode. Ping Assist lets any servers/peers connect, as long as they meet your ping requirements. You can use it as a Ping Filter by placing your Geo-Filter radius in the ocean so that no servers or peers are within it.
