Thanks for the update Soap. If you are getting disconnects when connected into the modem, that points to the cause being either in the modem, the cabling or the line itself? Let me know if you think I'm wrong.
As for NAT Type 2 - that generally should mean everything is still fine, but obviously type 1 is preferred. It might be worth taking the modem back out of bridge mode and instead seeing if there is an option for DMZ, where you then put the XR500's IP address into the IP (this is the IP address according to your modem, also known as the XR500's WAN IP)

Another update on the on-going saga - Saturday Morning Google Fiber came out and not only replaced their modem but also checked everything. According to them, everything is all good. So today I've reconnected the XR500 and I'll resume operations. I'll keep everyone up to date on what's going on
