XR500 VPN Service not working in ANDROID
Hi,
I'm writing here after various try
and I didn't get to make the VPN service work on Android.
I followed the guides but OPEN VPN doesn't connect to my local network.
I have static IP , but I also tried with Dynamyc dns
I tried UDP / TCP ...no way ! Tried different Android App.
I read every single thread here in the forum....
The only guy who seems to have solved the problem used a commercial Android App (not Free) with TAP emulation support, which is clearly NOT recommended for Android in router VPN configuration page.
So please go deep into the issue.
Service is unusable.

- Netduma-FraserNetDuma PartnerI would highly recommend making a ticket with Netgear as it's one of their features so something we (myself and Liam from Netduma) may not be able to help as much with. Other community members may be better suited here.
What are you using the VPN service for exactly? Was it this guide you used? https://kb.netgear.com/29783/How-do-I-use-VPN-service-on-my-router-with-my-Android-device?article=29783 Did you use TUN or TAP?- faldan72AspirantHi Fraser,
Thank you for the prompt reply.
I followed exactly that guide.
In Android you can't use anything but TUN.
TAP is no longer supported by Android.
I'm using VPN service because I need to be connected to my home network while I'm not at home.
I also use hybrid vpn with no issues except for the very poor speed of Openvpn protocol (!)... But, as you know very well, that's for other purposes.
My xr500 is set as router and manage my network but I had a Fritz 7530 before and I regularly used VPN (ipsec) flawlessly.
So...in the end, I haven't been able to connect to my home network from my Android phone.- Netduma-FraserNetDuma PartnerIf you try from a Windows PC do you suffer the same issue or does it appear to be happening just on Android? Do you have any port forwarding rules or DMZ etc set on the XR?
