When you are telling people to switch the Device Type in Device Manager: Why would anyone want a super expensive router that cares so much about the device type that it will hang up because of th...

Upgrade to this firmware: https://kb.netgear.com/000061714/XR700-Firmware-Version-1-0-1-24-Hot-Fix and that should resolve the first part of your concerns. I'd suggest doing a factory reset after the upgrade but considering the reservations you've done then perhaps hold off for now. You can do a backup from Settings > Administration > Backup Settings.

Feb 29, 2020Why would I install this hotfix? First, "beta" is in the title of the zip file and secondly, the release notes for this hotfix only states that it addresses: "Security Advisory for Signed TLS Certificate Private Key Disclosure on Some Routers, PSV-2020-0105"
Where in the release notes does it say it will fix any of the issues I listed?
When will DUMAOS 3.0 be available? I keep seeing its release teased in this forum. Have you all really just stopped worrying about break/fix and shifted your focus onto security concerns or DUMAOS 3.0?
Even Netduma-Fraser said on 2019-11-12: "The 3.0 update includes reworking of existing features which in itself should resolve any current issues."
The angel geek on my right shoulder is telling me to say, "I hope I say all this then find out the 3.0 update is coming out next week." However, the little devil geek on my other sholder who has read through all the issues on these forums is telling me to manage my expectations.
- Netduma-FraserMar 02, 2020NetDuma Partner.22 was a firmware we were providing to people specifically built to fix that issue so .24 will also include this, if you prefer I can give you .22 instead. We like Netgear are not giving out any deadlines/estimations on when the software is being released. We will first be doing a beta which we hope to launch very soon.

I do not know if router placement had anything to do with it, but I followed the instruction at 2:11 of this video (I did mount it to the wall though):
#DumaOS How To Get Your Best WiFi Settings On DumaOS / NetGear NightHawk XR500 | SGR
I know the video says XR500, but this guy has some great tips. I not only took my XR700 router out of a downstairs media closet and mounted it on a wall in the center of my 2nd floor (of 3 total). But, I also was able to discontinue the use of my Netgear Nighthawk X6S AC3000 Tri-Band WiFi Range Extender EX8000 - which had been previously placed in the center of my second floor. I had used it with my previous Verizon FiOS router with very few issues.
I also disabled Smart Connect and 20/40 under Settings, Wireless Setup as the SGR video stated and used a DFS channel for my 5 GHz. I also followed his Advanced Wireless Settings suggestions as well - including checking "Enable 160 MHz bandwith in the 5 GHz band" which shows differently for the XR500 in the video.
So far, since booting it up late in the evening of 3/4/2020, I have not had any issues. I will continue to monitor for a week or so and report back.

Netduma-Fraser, I did not have to install the hotfix. Everything seems to be working fine now.
The settings and suggestions all should follow (subject to change as updates to DUMAOS are made) are in this video and really begin at 1:31:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJmrF1JCFrQ&feature=youtu.be&t=131
SGR made an extremely helpful video, so I suggest you leave them some props if this works for you.
The DUMAOS interface in the video above for the XR500 may look a little different from the XR700, yet the concepts mentioned in the video above are the same.
The solution may have been a combination of:
- Better router placement - mentioned in the video at the link above
- Discontinuing the use of my extender (because of better router placement)
- DUMAOS settings mentioned in the video at the link above
- Changing the Retry Attempts on Startup value of the R-Apps to 5
- Setting DHCP reservations in DUMAOS for all my devices (we need to be able to back these settings up)
- Wireless routers nearby on the same channel
On my Google Pixel, I installed the Network Analyzer Pro app by Jiri Techet. It's "Wi-Fi Signal" menu helps out immensely. It shows the channel, signal strength, and other info for your 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz bands. I cannot verify its accuracy, but it appears to be legit. Make up your own mind on this if you decide to try it out. You click the little dualing wi-fi signal icon at the top right while in the "Wi-Fi Signal" portion of the app to switch your view between the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz bands.
My friend downloaded the app on iPhone, but it did not have all the features I had on Android. Check to be sure if you are installing on iPhone. There also may be a better app out there by the time you view this post.
Additionally, other routers nearby may channel hop or your neighbor could get a new one, so the information you see in this app is only as good as when you are currently looking at it. It is also good for testing your signal from different areas of your house.
Any questions, corrections, or updates? Thanks for your time.
