What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Looks like you have a router in front of the XR router already.
Have you setup some IP address reservations for your devices ON the router?
X700 is not a valid model for a extender. EX#### or EAX##

The modem is an Arris NVG589 from 2015
The WAP is Cisco VEN501-AT
Both WAP and the netgear XR700 are attached to the Arris with CAT5e cable
The Netgear has been attached for about a year and these issues started maybe 60 days ago.
Thanks for the quick reply

Are any devices connected directly to the XR700? Are they also experiencing this issue or is it only devices connected to the AP?
Are you able to see all the devices connected to the AP in device manager, or is it just the AP that you can see?
Do these devices show as going between online and offline in Device Manager, or do they show as being consistently offline?
If you reserve IP addresses for each individual device that's having this issue, does the problem stop?

Are any devices connected directly to the XR700? Are they also experiencing this issue or is it only devices connected to the AP?
- I have a PC and printer connected by Cat5e to the XR700 and have not had issues
Are you able to see all the devices connected to the AP in device manager, or is it just the AP that you can see?
- I can see all the devices connected -- some to 2.4 some to 5 but also a binch "not connected"
- When I delete the non-connected devices some so "can't delete, device online"
Do these devices show as going between online and offline in Device Manager, or do they show as being consistently offline?
- Some of both
- I can see some switch from online to offline and some just stay offline
If you reserve IP addresses for each individual device that's having this issue, does the problem stop?
- I gave one PC a static address ...87 in MAC network settings
- It worked for a while, but has now stopped
- I do not know how to reserve in the XR700 (I would also like to prioritze the kids computers when taking an exam in QOS but could not figure that out either.)
Thanks

Also, should I put the Aris in bridge mode -- I am reluctant to that as the kids use the other wifi as a backup if the XR700 is not working for them
Could it have anything to do with the extender that I added? It seems to have started shortly after that was added. It is an EX7000

What mode is the modem working in? Router or AP mode. Your modem already has a built in router. This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the NG router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the NG router gets from the modem.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the NG router to the modem, LAN to LAN configure AP mode on the NG router.
