XR700 losing internet, restart fixes it

I have an XR700 running firmware 1.01.34.  I realize this isn't the latest firmware but when I upgraded to 1.01.38 I had a bunch of connectivity issues with many devices.  I tried disabling smart connect which I read would help but it didn't.  I had to go back to 1.01.34 to get all my devices to connect again.  For a period of time it was fine, but recently, starting only late at night it would show connection to the router WiFi but with no internet.  The modem was showing internet and a restart or unplug/plug in would fix the issue.  Recently, it has been getting worse with happening more and more often with always the same  issues.

Any suggestions or anyone experiencing similar issues?  I love the router otherwise with all the customability and I do a lot of console gaming.  I have two wired connections (computer for work and my Xbox One X).  Wireless devices range from laptops, chrome books, tablets, thermostats, Amazon smart speakers, Neato Vacuum, Shark Vacuum, Roku, Xbox One, Amazon smart plugs, Wifi slowcooker, smartphones (Samsung/Apple), etc.

When I tried 1.01.38 it was random on what would connecxt and what wouldn't, almost as if things were competing for an IP address.

I appreciate any help, it is causing enough issues that it makes my kids virtual school and my wife teaching from home very unreliable.  The device is only 1 year oldish (I think it is 27 days over 1 year old) and I would rather not have to replace it.

Router is in a wooden cabinet (not ideal but has worked for a long time in this manner).  I manage heat with natural air flow through the cabinet (holes in the shelves and the door doesn't seal much at all.  Since my problems I have seperate my modem (in cabinet) and the router sitting on an external shelf (easier access for restarting and thought maybe heat could be an issue.

  • It's currently an issue the NG team are looking into and creating fixes for.

What is the modem/router model the XR is connected to? In LAN Settings on the XR change the range of the pool from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.50 then assign reserved/static IP addresses for your devices using 2-49 as the numbers, then reboot the router from the interface and see if it happens lease please.

The modem I am running connected to the XR700 is Hitron Technologies EN2551 supplied by Spectrum.  It was upgraded wthin the last year when I upgraded to the XR700.  My service is 400MB service and they suggested this one being better.

The fix that NG is looking at is for the recent firmware update or the problem I am having with the old firmware?

Also, one more follow up question to your suggestion, are you suggesting I load the latest firmware and perform the action of changing the range of pool from 192.168.1.2 -192.168.1.50 or trying this on the firmware I currently have loaded?

I saw that as a fix for the new firmware but some users said it would be lost when they reset or restarted.  Seems like a lot of work for something that I might have to do again but if it made my problems go away I would try it.

My current setting for DHCP Server IP address is 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.254 with a lease time set to 12 hours.
