Orbi iPhone app user name hard coded as "admin"
Up until today, the Orbi app on my phone allowed me to login using my netgear.com credentials - this has worked for over two years. Now, suddenly, it's asking me for "admin credentials" in the ap...

Well, it obviously CAN be changed LOL because I know what my admin username and password are and the username is NOT “admin”.
Not sure when or how I changed it, but the username and password combo works just fine in the browser, and I’m sure it WOULD work in the Orbi app if only they’d let me edit the username …
Odd how it worked for over TWO YEARS and suddenly doesn’t 🤷🏻♂️

Sorry to be a pest. "Works just fine in the browser" refers to connecting to http://orbilogin.net or the local IP address of the Orbi router?
Can you please identify the model of Orbi router?
(Back when telnet was allowed to the original Orbi routers, it was indeed possible to change the administrative account name from "admin" to anything else. Since telnet access to the newer models has never been supported, it is a stretch to think that anyone has found a method to change "admin" on the newer products.
FURRYe38 is correct about the sequence. I just now deleted data from my Android Orbi app and then opened the app. The first thing it wants is the Netgear login, typically the email address and password that are used to log into the Netgear support site and community forum.
After saying, "Have found your Orbi", it then asks for the router administrative login, "admin" and password.
One thing that annoys the heck out of me, is the the very first prompt for Netgear login pops up a box offering a choice of "admin" and some random email address that I lost access to years ago. (It is buried somewhere in "Netgear Land".)

Connecting to the Orbi via 192.168.1.1 in any browser (I use Safari on Mac) lets me login using my admin user name (which is NOT "admin") and password.
Connecting via the iPhone app ("Orbi") USED to work just fine using my netgear.com username and password (i.e., my email address and password), but suddenly stopped working (i.e., within in the last week or two) - now, after I put in the netgear.com login, it asks me for admin credentials on the RBR50 and the word "admin" is hard-coded into the user name field. Since my admin username is NOT "admin", it kind of leaves me stuck.
I suppose I COULD do a complete reset on the router, but that seems like an awfully "nuclear" fix for an app problem (e.g., hard-coding the word "admin" into the user name field so that the user cannot input a different value).

This is so cool. Would you happen to remember how the administrative account name was changed from "admin" to something else?
I know how to hack the original Orbi AC products, but not how to hack the newer AX products.

LOL - I don't remember. Obviously, I did it some time back, because I'd forgotten I'd even done it ... and if I remembered how I did it, I'd just change it back 😉
Seems like the only "fix" now is to completely reset the config, which I hesitate to do because I have some custom port mappings, etc., I'd hate to have to re-do.
