Orbi RBR50 - Device Pause/Resume headache

I made a bad decision. Prior to a big webinar, I decided that I would pause internet access to different devices on my Orbi RBR50 network. I tried using the Orbi App, and quickly realized that it would be much more efficient to just go unplug anything connected that I didn't want to compete for bandwidth. I now know never to use the Orbi App Device Manager Pause/Resume function.

To all those who think that this post is mischaracterized: fear not. This is about how I fixed an issue that I mistakenly caused with that action.

So, one of the devices that I paused in the app was our Roku streaming device. When I tried to turn it back on (again, using the app), it seemed to work. However, even though the Roku was able to connect to the WiFi, I wasn't able to access anything. So, at this point, I logged into the router directly from a connected PC (using orbilogin), and I noticed that the Roku was indeed marked as being blocked in the "Attached Devices" section (basic view). *sigh*

I tried to use the app again to resume the network (and also updated the firmware on the router while I was at it, I'm now on v 2.7.4.24). At this point, within both the app and orbilogin, the Roku was showing as being allowed and connected. However, I still couldn't get the Roku to function properly. I tried connecting it to the guest network instead but got a similar result. At this point, I put my phone in hotspot mode and connected the Roku to my phone (via the phone's own connection to my Orbi WiFi network), and lo and behold, I have a connection! I knew that there was something wonky going on at the router that was refusing Internet access to the Roku.

Next, I went back into orbilogin, the advanced view, and security > access control. Even though the Roku was shown as being allowed throughout all of the possible device manager views on both the app and the orbilogin, the access control window showed it as being blocked. *eye roll* So, here, I was able to re-allow the Roku et voilà! I have access again!

So, because I noticed that there were quite a few posts with people not able to re-establish access for devices after using the Orbi app's pause/resume function, I thought that I would post this here so that people know to forget the app and to go instead into the orbilogin > advanced > security > access control pane to get things working again.

I hope that someone can learn from my pain!
