Parental Controls doesn’t pause devices

Recently got an RBRE960 orbi mesh network and added parental controls, as that’s one of the main features we need.

I’ve been on the phone twice with customer care and still have issues.

It seems that I’m able to pause phones and computers, but it doesn’t work on speakers like Alexa. I pause and it continues to play music.

Very disappointing product and customer care so far with my first Netgear Experience.

Anyone have any solutions? (The past post i found on this was froze for inactivity)

  • Alexa and I have a very complicated relationship*.  My guess is that "Pausing" a device may prevent it from connecting again.**

    * In my own case, our Sonos 1 speaker supports "Alexa, play KUSC radio", but when we say, "Alexa Stop" the music just keeps going on.  We have to say, "Alexa Mute".  Stupid Cow.

Oh, just realized: The point was not to make the music stop, it was to validate that "pausing" actually accomplished something.
(I had thought, "why not just tell Alexa to stop?" - doh)

** I don't have Parental Controls myself.  Perhaps a good experiment would be to Pause the speaker with Parental Controls, turn it off.  Then turn it back on again and see if it connects and works again.

The whole point though is I need to be able to pause my daughters Alexa, and it should immediately stop playing, and not be able to play more. That’s the whole point of parental controls, and if that’s not possible, then I may as well exchange for something that can do that.
