RBR20 and RBS20 Ethernet Backhaul in AP Mode

I have RBR20 in AP mode, connected as follows:

Gateway router to switch.

Switch to RBR20 Lan Port

Switch to RBS20 Lan Port

Switch to 2nd RBS20 Lan Port.

RBR20 WAN port is connected to a WD NAS(My Could) to turn the top light off.

Everything is working perfectly EXCEPT the Orbi AP in my iphone. It is finding the router.

If go Gateway router to RBR20 WAN and RBR20 Lan to Switch, then everything working fine and the ORBI app also connecting to the Orbi.

Why the orbi app is not working when the switch is connected to RBR20 Lan port?

  • What is the Mfr and model# of the switch being used?

The configuration should be like this:

Gateway router to RBR20 WAN port

    RBR20 Lan Port to Switch

    Switch to RBS20 Lan Port

Switch to any other wired devices.

  • Connecting the Gateway router to RBR20 WAN and RBR20 LAN to switch works fine.

I don't want my network becomes dependent on Orbi which I want only for WIFI AP.

Another method is suggested here https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi/ethernet-backhaul-for-ORBI-in-AP-mode/td-p/1707668#

Internet > gateway router > gateway router LAN port #1 > RBR50 (AP mode)

                                             |

                                             > gateway router LAN port #2 > RBS50

This above mentioned connection method works fine, except the Orbi App(iphone) is not connecting and saying wifi is not available.

But iphone is connected to Orbi Wifi and all the wireless devises are also connected to Orbi wfif.

Problem is the Orbi App, not working when RBR20' LAN port is used to connect the gateway router.

You have to she the WAN port to connect the RBR to the network. Orbi app I believe depends on this conenction as the LAN port on the RBR is problably not giving the correct status to the app. Also the top ring LED will always be ON as well which depends on the use of the WAN port to get correct status.

This is something I don't see with mine while in AP mode, mines connected using the the WAN Port on the RBR.

I enabled the Remote Management in the Orbi App(iphone). Now it connects to the RBR20 and RBS20 when I choose connect remotely, but it actually using the Wifi. I didn't expect this. I thought Remote Mgmt is meant to be used when user is away from home.

        To recap:

Internet > gateway router > gateway router LAN port #1 > RBR20 (AP mode)

                                                 |

                                                 > gateway router LAN port #2 > RBS20

                                                > gateway router LAN port #3 > RBS20(second)

To keep the RBR20 top light off, I connected a NAS(WD MyCloud) to WAN port of the RBR20.

In this setup, all client devices are correctly shown in web interface.

Orbi Apps works via remote connection which actually using the Orbi Wifi !
