Update USERNAME on Orbi App Login

Hi, I have until recently been able to login remotely with my Orbi app to access a RBR50 and 3 satellite system.  Recently, the app changed my login name to admin and it is greyed out so I am unable to change it to what I had updated it to some years ago.  Help.

    Not at all.

One is the cloud login using the Netgear account with your user name and your cloud password, the other password is requested if authenticating locally to the router or the satellite with the fixed admin username.

The app will not "change the login name to admin". It was always admin. Always will be. You cannot change it.

There are multiple topics in this conversation.

    • The steps for "Can't Login to Orbi Satellite?" are irrelevant to the problem.
    • schumaku is entirely correct.  The Orbi 'app' requires two entirely different logins:
      • The app itself uses the Negear login, which is usually an email plus a password.
(Unless the user has enabled 2 Factor Authentication, which I have never done - shudder)
      • When first set up, the app also requires the password to the router web interface.
(As michaelkenward echoed, the web interface user name is "admin" and cannot be changed.)
Once this authentication has been performed, the app "knows" the router and no longer asks for this authentication.
I have no idea what happens if the user deliberately changes the router password after the app has been configured.
    • Login remotely means the app must use the Anywhere Access method, which involves logging into the Netgear cloud.

Usually, when I open the Orbi app, it just "opens". I have found that many times when the Android version of the app gets updated to a new version, the next time I attempt to open the app it asks me to authenticate (and I regret that my Netgear cloud password is so damn complicated).  Every time, the user name pops up as "admin" and it helpfully suggests two email accounts that I have not used for years.  I have to enter my Netgear account manually and enter that compliated password manually.  After that, everything is automatic until the next time the app updates.

I know nothing about the Apple version of the app, except that there are constant complaints on the forum about it.

Thus, I suspect that you are screwed until you can be physically connected to the Orbi LAN and see if Anywhere Access is still enabled on this router.
