Using Orbi RBR 20 and the internet speed is too much slow?

I am experiencing slow internet speed with my Orbi RBR 20 setup. Despite having a Comcast modem with a maximum speed of 1200mbps, I am encountering unusual speed issues.

When I connect my PC directly to the modem via Ethernet, I am getting around 350mbps. However, when I perform a speed test on the Orbi, it shows a speed of 930mbps.

On the other hand, when I connect my Android device to the modem's Wi-Fi, I am getting speeds of 1300+mbps. But when I connect it to the Orbi Wi-Fi, the speed drops to 600+mbps, which is less than half of the expected speed.

Could the modem be causing this problem?"

  • 1. What "modem" is it? I'm betting its not a modem and something like their xb7 or xb8

    2. You're hardwired speeds to the modem are less than the orbi? Sounds like something is doing some traffic managing on the "modem"

    3. If you're hitting 600mbps over wireless on the orbi, you're doing fantastic. Thats about its maximum you can ever expect over wireless from it. Its frontend 5ghz is only a 866mbps link speed. And actual throughput tends to be around 55-65% of link speed. so if you're hitting 600, you're at the max. Most only get 300-400mbps out of that orbi's wireless.

If you're wanting faster wireless speed than that (which most don't need), you'd need to upgrade to a pretty solid AX or BE (wifi 6 or 7) system. And not a base model one either.

Something to keep in mind is that streaming 4k only takes 25-40mbps. So if you're getting 200-600mbps out of the orbi, that's more than most devices need/or will use.
