2 RBR860s, 1 Router, 1 AP
I am trying to use a second RBR860 I got for practically free instead of a satellite. My setup is currently the ATT Fiber modem in passthrough wired to the Main Orbi downstairs (WAN). Then, in one of...

Try this. Press the power button on the xbox consoles until they shut off, then release the power button.
Power cycle the ISP modem or ONT and the RBR OFF for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem or ONT, then RBR. Once that system is up and running, power ON one xbox console. Check NAT status. Then power on the 2nd xbox console and check NAT status.

What channels are the two RBR using. Should be on far apart channels and not using same channels on the RBRs. Not sure if using same SSID name will work. I'd use a different SSID name on the 2nd RBR. What is the size of your home? Sq Ft? What is the distance between the router and 2nd RBR? Be sure to disable any MAC Address randomizers on phones and pads while at home: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-App/NETGEAR-Mobile-Applications-and-Apple-Devices-FAQ/td-p/222...
1. So I manually set them on separate channels. I believe that the upstairs is on 1 and 40 (2.4 &5) and the downstairs is on 6 and 48.
2. I thought about having two different SSIDs whether they were both in router mode or in AP but was trying to get that "seamless roaming" i had with my previous setup of 1 router, 1 satellite. It would be simple for dedicated upstairs objects like thermostat or consoles, but moving phones or tablets between the two i didnt want to have to drop one and connect to other.
3. Home is ~2900sq ft. Downstairs is open concept kitchen, dining, living room. Master behind kitchen. 2 rooms behind living room. Office off of the living room but different hallway than two kids rooms. Upstairs is game room, and oldest's bedroom. so probably about 2100 down and 800up?
4. Routers have the vaulted ceiling of the living room that separates them so their point to point distance if the walls werent there is maybe 30ft? However leaving living room, to stairs, to hallway to playroom is probably 100? I thought about also moving one of the orbi to the office to generate more space between the two, but since the ATT and Fiber IN is in the living room i think that i would need a switch there to replace the orbi so that the xbox downstairs could still be wired. but now i have a wire between the ISP router and the RBR and wasnt sure how that would work since port forwarding is being handled by the RBR.
5. Im unfamiliar with MAC address randomizer but can research it when i get home. Is this something that is standard on mobile devices or an app that someone would have to download if they elected this type of service?

Id put the one downstairs on channel 11 and 48.
- BiggusDiggusDec 12, 2023AspirantSo, I kinda got it all figured out last night. I had to reset everything to factory settings and slowly bring them up. First I started with the gateway and configured the settings to pass through, disabled wifi, all firewall settings, packets, etc. Then I power cycled it to confirm it. Then I set up the RBR again. Then I connected the two so that the passthrough knew which Mac address to send to. Set up uPnP ( because I'm too lazy to open up ports for xbox). I did change my IP address on my gateway for security purposes following a reddit post I found. After everything was all set up, I introduced a 5 port gigabit switch downtime the RBR. Then out of curiosity I threw the other RBR that is in AP mode on the switch to see what would happen. And to my surprise it worked like a charm with no issues. The orbi app even thinks it's a satellite.
Set up is BGW320 to RBR(router) WAN. Then 1 cable to the switch. The switch carries the rest of the devices such as xbox downstairs, the drop to the office, and the drop to the orbi upstairs. On the orbi upstairs I have the upstairs xbox wired to the APs LAN port. Wifi works awesome. Only issue is that both of my xboxes are double Nat for some reason. But it doesn't seem to be affecting game play and I'm too mentally exhausted to unpack that and risk bringing the whole network down again. I understand the concept of Double NAT, but with the gateway essentially disabled, short of pass through, I dont get how I'm getting it. It was double nat before I put the 2nd orbi on upstairs as well. So its something between Gateway and Orbi 1.- FURRYe38Dec 12, 2023Guru
If one RBR is in router mode behind the ISP router, then this is double nat condition and thus why the xboxes are reporting this. You'll need to use the DMZ or IP pass thru on the ISP router to help with this.
Sounds like it is working better. Using the IP Pass thru will help for the xboxes. They can be particular about that.
- BiggusDiggusDec 12, 2023AspirantThe ATT Gateway is in passthrough. That's why I don't understand.
