Anyone has difficulties connecting their shelly relay to Orbi RBK852 wifi network?
I recently got my hands on Shelly 2.5 relay, and it just won't connect to my Orbi RBK852 router. Have tried disabling AX, enabling guess wifi, lowering 5ghz channel to 25%, setting static IP for the ...

Unfortunately this still does not work. I paired the shelly devices using my phone hotspot and they worked fine. However, upon switching the network to using the orbi router, the device stopped connecting. I swapped in an old TP link deco M5 mesh router and worked like a charm.
The issue is definitely with the Orbi RBK852 router. I suspect other IoT that runs on 2.4ghz will have the same incompatibility issue. If no solution can be found, I might have to consider returning them (if that's possible) or try selling them as 2nd hand :(

It isn't clear to me what you actually did to connect the device.
By saying you used the phone as a hotspot it sounds like you got the shelly to work with the phone as a wifi source and a connection to the Internet.
That is not the same as getting the shelly to work with the Orbi as a connection to the Internet.
The trick is to get the phone to make a 2.4 GHz connection to the router. That is not the same as using it as a hotspot. All that does it to use the phone for the Internet connection. The Orbi is nowhere in sight when you do that.
plemans also suggested other things you could try.
Did you try this:
Search - NETGEAR Communities – shelly
At least one message there seems to have worked.
Solved: Re: unable to add shelly device to my home network - NETGEAR Communities
- jimmyngtmDec 27, 2021TutorI was refering to plemans solution:
"I've hotspotted my phone before with the same ssid as my router (shut off the router). I've used that to get the IoT device setup on the ssid. then I simply shut off the hotspot and turned the router back on."
As for the link you attached, I have tried that already as mentioned in the main thread.
Any other idea? Thanks- michaelkenwardDec 27, 2021Guru - Experienced User

"I've hotspotted my phone before with the same ssid as my router (shut off the router). I've used that to get the IoT device setup on the ssid. then I simply shut off the hotspot and turned the router back on."That says that you set the device up on the hotspot with the router turned off.
By definition that means that you did not connect the device to the wifi from your router.
Using the same SSID means nothing. You can use the same SSID for as many wifi sources as you like. But that does not mean that your device knows how to connect to the wifi source that matters. It just means that you have confused the wifi devices you are connecting.
For once. I fear that there may be something missing from the suggestion from plemans. Perhaps there were other steps beyond simply using the same SSID.
Did you spot this bit:
I haven't had to do that in years and it was many on cheap/poorly coded devices.Sadly, plemans did not have access to the same IoT widget that you are trying to set up.
Did you follow up this?
You also might check on the Shelly website/forum as they tend to be a little less user friendly and for more advanced users.
It is a down to trying all the options going.
Any other idea?Yes. try the obvious solution.
CONNECT YOUR MOBILE PHONE TO THE 2.4GHz WIFI FROM YOUR ROUTER.
I see no sign that you tried this bit in the message from plemans
Then disconnect your phone from the wifi and reconnect. see if it connect to the 2.4ghz. if it does, try setup. If it doesn't, then we'd need another option. That may take some doing, especially if it one of those helpful iOS devices.
It seem that other people have succeeded. Perhaps there is a slight wrinkle that you have missed in what you are doing.
- jimmyngtmDec 27, 2021TutorWell obviously it is an unorthodox trick solution as a last resort. I used my old router as a control test and the device could indeed connect to it as long as I use the same ssid, whereas it still doesn't work for orbi.
The reason I said it does not matter whether my phone is connected to 2.4ghz is because my phone is not connected to wifi network at all when I setup the device. The shelly device can operate as an access point where I can connect directly to it via bluetooth/wifi using laptop/phone. After that I can set up the wifi connection (providing ssid/pw/static ip etc) for the device without my phone being connected to the wifi network all together.
That said, Orbi RBK852 does not seem to have the option to turn off 5ghz channel, and I already tried to lower the power of 5ghz channel to 25%. Given that I still could not connect my phone to 2.4ghz channel. And I doubt that matters as my phone needs not connect to the wifi network at all in the setup.
I am more inclined to believe that the solution, if any, has something to do with the wifi setting instead. Whether I should enable AX, WMM, etc. Any thought in this regard?
