Bad design orbi mesh , can not seperate ssid

Most of the smart home devices only accept wpa2, which means i cant go for wpa3.

As if ssid can be separated like nighthawk series, 2.4g can set as wpa2, and 5ghz can go for wpa3 for wifi6

Nothing that prohibiting a mixed-mode WPA2-PSK [AES] + WPA3-Personal [SAE] configuration for the same SSID.

The problem isn't the design. The point is that the industry has learned us that it can't be done different, and more obvious. It's a legacy, not a need, or a requirement. The SSID does define the network, the IP subnet, you are connecting to. Nothing else.

Why should a client have to change the SSID because he is arriving at the location, going into the garden, going into the garage? It's the same location, the same SSID, the same IP subnet, the same network. The key is reliable coverage everywhere.

Im just saying you should give the option for people to choose rather the seperate ssid or not , it leads alot trouble , like im using eufy cam system and now im not able to view live view at home since it auto assigned 5ghz channel for my phone while the camera system only support 2.4ghz (i need to go miles away from my home and make it turn me to 2.4ghz channel if i want live viewing my camera) doesnt it sound ironic?
If thats not a problem you wont see this answer https://kb.netgear.com/000062547/Can-I-choose-if-my-Orbi-router-broadcasts-separate-WiFi-networks-for-2-4GHz-and-5GHz

“ SSID separation for these WiFi bands is under consideration for future implementation as we continue to add new features to our products.”

Both devices are connected to the very same network, the band used does not matter. For a reason, no mobile phone does allow to select a band. I know you don't like the answer ... Under no situation your mobile can magically change the WiFi band used.

If your wonderful camera system does have such a limitation - I strong doubt this is required just for the live view - you should know where to complain.

I'm aware (just like Netgear) - this is the driver for this wonderful KB article footnote - that there are very crappy discovery programs which are unhappy if the current wireless connection isn't on 2.4 GHz WiFi due to bad programming. This is the only problem which exists.

Have a WiFi 2.4 GHz video doorbells (brand is irrelevant) here at home as well as on the holiday location high up in the Swiss alps. Doorbell signals and video calls from both locations are reaching me on the Samsung tablet here at home (while connected to a 5 GHz AP) or on my notebook (while connecting on 6 GHz). Everything on the very same SSID. Unbelievable for you?

  • Separation of SSIDs is NOT supported on Orbi AX systems. Never has been.

MIxed mode WPA2/WPA3 was problematic early on so was removed early one while the WPA and mfr developers figured it out. Mixed mode on Orbi 960 series when it came out was supported and is currently working fine. NG maybe coming to pass on the othe Orbi systems as well. Be aware that even with mixed mode WPAs, there still some devices that won't connect in mixed mode, as they have some odd problems with the mixed mode interferring with there connection which these devices don't seem to be able to handle. This is on the Mfrs of these devices, not NGs.

Keep an eye out for next FW release. Good things maybe seen.

    Good luck.
