Can I run the router and satellites off the same switch for wired backhaul?
Waiting for my AX6000 to arrive. Plan to use wired ethernet backhaul, router as AP behind my Verizon FIOS router. My house is wired with a star topography, home run in the basement where a 16 port switch is located, and a single ethernet cable from the switch out to each room in the house.
The wiring diagrams I have seen for ethernet backhaul require the satellites to be connected to the LAN ports of the router. Is that necessary? The only way I can wire that way is if I place the router (as AP) at the home run location. So it would be:
FIOS Router --> Orbi Router WAN port --> Orbi Router LAN port --> 16 port switch -->Orbi satellite
\-->Orbi satellite
(and the switch would also continue to feed all of my other devices throughout the house).
Problem is, the home run location is a poor place to put a mesh wifi wifi access point, it's out of the way in a corner of the basement where I don't really need wifi coverage. So I'd rather put the router in a more centrally located room of the house and the satellites in other rooms of the house. To do that, I would have to wire like this:
FIOS Router --> 16 port switch --> Orbi Router WAN port
\-->satellite
\-->satellite
I'm pretty sure there is no way to make this work, and my only option is to put the Orbi Router at the home run location in the basement. But want to make sure.
Thanks!!

This would be the recommended configuration. Yes.
FIOS Router --> Orbi Router WAN port --> Orbi Router LAN port --> 16 port switch -->Orbi satellite
\-->Orbi satellite
What is the Mfr and model# of the ethernet switch in the configuration?
